What is FTP
<seo title="What is FTP" metakeywords="FTP,what is FTP,download files, upload files" metadescription="What is FTP" /> Once you have purchased a hosting account you may start designing your site using any site building tool on your local PC. As soon as the site is ready to go live you need to upload the site files from your local PC to the web server for the site to be available for Internet users. You can upload the files to the server using FTP. Actually FTP may be used both to download the files and upload them. So if you have already designed site on some server and want to move it to a different one all you have to do is to download the files to your local PC and then upload them to the needed web server. You may ask: what is FTP? FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, a method of moving files between computers and/or web servers. cPanel is already equipped with an FTP server so you don't have to do anything else to configure your FTP. You can log in to FTP using your cpanel username/password. In order to download and/or upload the files via FTP you need to have some FTP client installed on your computer. There are numerous FTP clients available on the net (e.g. Filezilla, Cyberduck, etc.). Alternatively you can use a web browser to connect to FTP. To use your web browser to connect to an FTP site ftp.yourdomain.com enter: ftp://username@ftp.yourdomain.com/ This method makes it easy to browse large directories and download files but it may be a bit slower than using FTP clients.
