The History Of cPanel Hosting
<div align=justify>Initially cPanel was a control panel tailored to be specifically for “Speed Hosting”, a now non existent cPanel hosting company. The creator of cPanel, J. Nick Koston, had a stake in Speed Hosting. Web King started using cPanel after they merged with Speed Hosting. After the merge, the new company moved their servers to “Virtual Development Incorporated", which is a hosting company which also no longer exists. After an arrangement between Koston and VDI, cPanel would only be available to customers that got their web hosting from VDI. cPanel 3 came out in 1999, it's more notable differences were a web host manager and auto installer and upgrader(Fantastico). Although, cPanel 3 was some what buggy and didn't have the best UI. The UI improved when Carlos Rego, of Wizards Hosting, designed what would become the default theme of cPanel. Eventually due to a conflict of interests between VDI and Koston, cPanel was split up into two separate entities, with one being called cPanel and WebPanel; WebPanel being the one that was run by VDI. Without a programmer, VDI wasn't able to continue any work on WebPanel and eventually no longer supported it. Koston continued to work on cPanel while also working at BurstNET. Later he left BurstNET to give his undivided attention to cPanel. cPanel is always undergoing update and improvements as the years pass, and to this day is considered to be one of the best, if not the best control panel to date.</div> ''Taken from http://hubpages.com''
