Google "Inspirator" launches his challenge in Web Searching
<div align=justify>Challenging Google in web searching sounds like an astonishing idea. Even more, if the project doesn’t come from a big, aggressive and wealthy company but from an old Italian University. On Monday February 6th, this project, called Volunia, will be unveiled online globally, in a conference in streaming from Padua University (at noon in Italy), not far from Venice. Much more than an odd event, because of the name of his author. Now 41, Massimo Marchiori, Italian computer scientist and professor at Padua University, was awarded in 2004 with the prestigious prize TR100 by the Technology Review, magazine published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the creator of HyperSearch algorythm, cited by Sergei Brin and Larry Page, when they introduced PageRank, precious algorythm patented by Stanford University, at the base of Google’s success. During these years Marchiori refused many offers from Google and others top hi tech company, just to live and work in Italy, he said. Often cited by the media and in public meetings as “The Italian who inspired Google”. But he never stopped thinking about the future of the web. “Volunia is not just a a classic search engine , not Google or other web search engine… plus 10%. It’s a new radical view of what the search engine of the future could be. An ambicious project localized in 12 languages, covering all the contents of the world”, Marchiori explained in a short video on YouTube. Users can register on Volunia.com. Some of them will be selected by Volunia staff as “Beta-Testers”, with a special feedback. These “Power Users” will receive information on the next steps and then they will be able to invite friends to join the test. Working with Italian servers and a special techonological partnership to power the bridge with US users, until today, the project required an investment of 2 million euros, Mariano Pireddu, Volunia co-founder together with Marchiori was quoted as saying, by Nova Magazine of Sole 24 Ore Italian newspaper.</div> ''Taken from http://www.forbes.com''
