New Top-Level Domains are Coming Soon
<div align=justify>On January 12. This will be closes on April 12, 2012 Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) started accepting applications for new custom top-level domains (TLDs). While the new TLDs are quite expensive — $185,000 each — the domain niche is sure to change a lot. In December 2011, Verisign (a domain registry) issued a report containing the current count of TLDs, through the third quarter of 2011. '''Total Domain Registrations''' During the third quarter of 2011 there were nearly 220 million domain name registrations across all top-level domains. In comparison to the second quarter, that was an increase of 4.9 million domains. {{#icon: Total Domain Registrations.jpg|Total Domain Registrations}} Since the third quarter of 2010, domain registrations have increased by 8.9 percent. The largest TLDs are listed below: '''1.''' .com '''2.''' .de (Germany) '''3.''' .net '''4.''' .uk (United Kingdom) '''5.''' .org '''6.''' .info '''7.''' .tk (Tokelau) '''8.''' .nl (Netherlands) '''9.''' .ru (Russian Federation) '''10.''' .eu (European Union) Though it is impossible to define the exact impact of the new custom TLDs right now, one thing is obvious - changes are coming. Once the application window is closed, we'll have the opportunity to assess this altered landscape.</div> ''<font size=1>Image source: http://verisign.com</font>''
