Disadvantages of shortening URL
<div align=justify>Typing a long URL into your browser may be annoying. Short URL are better in this case. However, shortening the website address can be confusing to your site visitors and have negative impact on your business. So, when, if ever, is it appropriate to shorten an URL? Although there are numerous free shortening URL services (e.g. TinyUrl.com). The service they provide is convenient for micro-blogging such as posting Twitter news with the limit of 140 character length. However, it’s always preferable to use proper URLs to convey a completed message to avoid any confusion from the followers' side. * '''''Disadvantages of shorter URLs''''' Website owners can be divided into two groups. One of them supports URL shortening, the other one opposes them and both provide their grounds. One of the most disadvantages of a shorter URL is the potential loss of the company’s brand. The majority of professional websites are built on a recognizable and unique domain name that customers quickly get used to. If the URL is shorter, the uniqueness quality can be lost. Another disadvantage of shorter URLs is the fact that it confuses new visitors, potential customers and existing customer base. Visitors and customers want quick and easy access to information. Also they would like to be able to bookmark favorite pages without looking through the history files to find visited websites without valid URL indicators. There are other concerns regarding URL shortening that should be kept in mind. The first one is that makes your site more susceptible to hacker attacks. Another one is that all website links associated with the shorten URL will go offline in case the chosen shortening service used experiences issues. Although many web owners are used to shortening long URL addresses, others keep using long domain names. </div>
