What is document root?
<seo title="What is document root" metakeywords="document root, home directory, change document root,public_html" metadescription="What is document root" /> <div align=justify>The '''document root''' is the folder where the website files for a domain name are kept. Since cPanel allows you to add multiple domain names, then you need to have a unique folder for each domain. The main domain is rooted in the ''public_html'' folder. This means that the site files for your primary domain must be placed within ''public_html'' folder. Your addon and subdomain names will be rooted to their own folders inside ''public_html'' (e.g. ''public_html/addon_domain_folder''). The Document Root for your addon and subdomains is being created automatically while adding the domain to cPanel. Alternatively you can change it and set any folder name you like. Different host use different names for document root: * ''Start directory'' * ''Home directory'' * ''Web publishing directory'' * ''Remote root'' In most cases there is no need to change the document root. If your site content is being transferred from a different web host, however, changing the Document Root folder may be necessary to make the transfer process easier. '''Note:''' in order to change the document root for your addon or subdomain you need to remove it from your cPanel first, and then re-add pointing to the desired folder. Document root (often referred to as '''''Home directory''''') is always required to be filled when uploading/publishing sites to a web server. Make sure you have it set correctly to have the site appear on the net and function properly.</div>
